Bringing back the lost glory

Conceived as part of Pride East Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., ‘Golden Threads of Assam’ is an endeavour to take Muga – Assam’s pristine golden silk – to a bigger and global world. .

The initiative was officially launched at a glittering ceremony at the Vivanta by Taj in Guwahati on 19 October, 2016, with the chief goal of promoting Muga alongside salvaging it from the onslaught of global climatic changes, exponents of artificial silk and other external factors. It is a progressive label that opens a portal to the world of distinguished creations in the rarest of silk. It’s time the world saw the magnificence of this timeless silk and we are here to unveil the glory and untold story of the regal woven gold of Assam.

Mission

Golden Threads is working towards helping weavers and rearers so as to ensure that Muga maintains its unique and special identity by:

Promoting its value-added design so as to increase the acceptance of Muga products throughout the world

Advocating and enforcing a regulated market so that the silk producers are not exploited and receive their due share

Providing financial and technical assistance

Empowerment of women in rural and urban areas through sericulture and other handloom activities.

Promoting skill development through regular trainings and workshops

The journey and its impact

At the soul of Golden Threads of Assam lies our native artisans who enrich the process of silk weaving with their excellence in this traditional craft.

With a mission to generate a platform for the artisans and place Muga silk under the much due spotlight that it deserves, we embarked upon our journey with few weavers in 2 villages with 82 households in the district of Goalpara.

This was followed by multiple awareness programs that were conducted across several other districts of Assam, thus, paving the way for gradual expansion. Additionally, intensive skill upgradation training was also imparted in order to advance their expertise in the art of silk rearing and weaving.

The growth of Golden Threads has seen a turn of events wherein the organization has provided livelihood opportunities to over 800 weavers from all across the state. Currently, the establishment is curating growth plans while envisioning working with clusters from all across Assam so as to reach out to larger masses and build a community of weavers who wish to preserve and protect the traditional and historical Muga.
